Freshers

Rifle shooting is a fun, social and challenging sport. It is one of the oldest blues activities in Oxford and one of the few where men and women can compete as equals.

It’s easy to get started!

Many of our members started shooting at Oxford. We can supply all necessary equipment and have talented coaches on hand to provide guidance and help you train. You can come to one or two of our freshers’ shoots before deciding whether to join – no obligation, come and see what it’s like!

Get on serious teams!

We frequently have members shooting at International team level, as well as for a number of county teams. There are three varsity matches against Cambridge each year in a range of disciplines, and we regularly shoot against universities and clubs from across the UK and occasionally tour abroad. Many of our members have earned half blues representing Oxford, and there’s even the chance to earn a Full Blue.

Socialise!

Shooting is a very social sport. There are lots of club gatherings during term, as well as formal dinners, balls and cocktail parties throughout the year. We have great links with other clubs and Universities who we regularly socialise with.

Summer and Winter Shooting

During Michaelmas and Hilary terms we shoot smallbore (.22) at 25 yards. We have a brand new, state of the art range at a sports complex just outside the city centre Cowley (click here for directions).

During Trinity term we shoot outdoors, fullbore from 300 to 1200 yards. It is a great way to relax and enjoy the sunshine. You will find more information on our activities in the about OURC section.

Freshers’ Shoots

At the beginning of Michaelmas we run freshers’ shoots so that you can give shooting a try and see if you enjoy it. Information will be sent round the freshers’ mailing list and posted on the news section of the website.

It’s no problem if you miss these, just email the club secretary, using the contact form and he’ll let you know when the best time to come to the range is.
